Jason Williams, NPC Bodybuilder

Jason WilliamsI have always had some interest in bodybuilding since I was a kid, flexing in front of a camera since age 4. Growing up I always was the skinny kid who was never very good at sports. In high school I dabbled in the weight room a little, but never stayed with any strict training regimen. It wasn’t until about 7 years ago in 2002 I decided I was tired of being skinny and that I was going to start getting serious in the gym, stop smoking and start eating a little better. Once I started taking it serious I was hooked. Over the next few years I brought myself from 140 lbs to 172 lbs.

In 2007 me and a couple buddies of mine decided that we would try and do a bodybuilding contest so we started training and getting ourselves into what we thought was good shape for a show. With 5 days left before the show, I got a call that the show had been cancelled due to lack of participants. I was pretty disappointed and decided I would go back to the drawing board and start preparing for another show.

Around that time I met my friend Matt Robinson who also said he was interested in doing a show. We decided that we would start training together to prepare for Darrell Terrell's NPCTotal Package show in September 2008. My buddy Matt said that he was going to get back with his trainer who he had a couple years back named Jeremy Minihan from Oklahoma. Matt talked this guy up like he was God and said that he would make sure he was ready for this show. Matt suggested that I do the same but I was skeptical and decided to sit back and wait to see what my friend started looking like before I was going to give any of my money to someone to train me. Well it did not take long to see that this trainer knew what he was doing. My buddy was transforming week to week before my eyes. I was definitely impressed but a little tight on money so I still held off.

Then about a couple of months later while working out at Powerhouse Gym, a lady named Sheryl approached me saying that she knew Matt and heard that we were doing the same show. She said that I was in good shape but needed some fine tuning to really get me ready. She said that she was a trainer herself but also had someone who trained her who was awesome. I asked her who it was and to my surprise, it was Jeremy Minihan. It was then I decided that I really needed to talk to this guy so Sheryl gave me his phone number and I called him up. Right away I could tell he was all business. He told me he was a straight shooter and that if a person looks like crap he will tell them they look like crap.

He asked me to send him some pictures and he would see what kind of shape I was in and if he could work with me for the upcoming show, only 5 1/2 weeks away. He said I would already have to be in pretty good shape for him to want to train me. He called me the next day and said it was a go! He sent me my diet and training routine and told me if I couldn’t come see him in Oklahoma, I needed to send pictures weekly, so I did. Man let me tell you, this guy is good! From pictures alone he made adjustments to my diet and training split to fix any weak areas. Week after week I was looking better and better. I ended up doing back to back shows. In Arizona I placed first in the lightweight division and then attended the long awaited “Total Package” competition. I not only placed first in my weight class, I also took the whole show by placing first in the overall. I was ecstatic. The next step would be the NPC Oklahoma Championship, a national qualifying show.

This time around the competition was going to be extremely tough. I only had until May 2009 to get ready for this show. I made sure I had a way to get to Oklahoma and train with Jeremy frequently. Training with Jeremy is like nothing else I have ever experienced. In 45 minutes to an hour of one of his training sessions he had me questioning my toughness. It is that intense! He hits the body from all different angles often making an exercise out of putting 2 pieces of different equipment together. He keeps you moving at a fast pace and never let’s you give up. He stayed with me every step of the way which made it easy for me to respect him because he treats every one of his clients like they are #1. He not only trains you hard but he practices what he preaches. He eats clean and trains himself just as hard, if not harder, than he trains you.

I started my pre-contest diet and training split 12 weeks prior to the competition date of May 30th. Jeremy had told me that I had gained some muscle mass from last year and it would be hard to make the same weight of 151-154 lbs for this show. Jeremy never lost focus and we worked and worked, changing the diet and targeting a few areas of my body that needed to improve. Little by little my body began to form in exactly the way he had intended it to. Once again, I was amazed at his training skills. Jeremy's motto "All it takes is all you/ve got." Let me tell you, I gave it all I had.

The end result a much improved physique and a first place finish. I am now nationally qualified! Next step, Junior Nationals, June 2010.

If you are looking for a trainer who will bring out your best and not just cater to your ego, Jeremy is your man.
